Analysis Of Vanitas Vanitatum By John Webster

The poet begins the poem by revealing that the major reasons plants grow their flowers is to perfume the bodies of human beings when they are buried:
"All the flowers of the spring
Meet to perfume our burying;" (line 1 and 2)

In line 6, John Webster summarized the life of humans by saying "We are set, we grow, we turn to earth." he believes that as human beings grow, time grow with them, monitoring and suddenly every humans ambitions and desires, die out like a spead perfume:
"And man does flourish but his time:
Survey our progress from our birth;"

He also referred to the selfishly foolish ambitions of the kings from line 13 to 16:
"Vain ambition of kings
Who seek by trophies and dead things
To leave a living name behind,
And weave but nets to catch the wind".

Vanitas Vanitatum by John Webster is a 16 line poem not broken into stanzas. It has a couplet form of end rhymes with simple diction that a very mild tone.
